Canyelles, the most remote and most exclusive cove in Lloret de Mar.

Cala Canyelles lies within a residential development of the same name, the cove furthest from Lloret de Mar's town centre. Its local history preserves, according to residents' oral memory, tales of post-war smuggling.

History & origins

The cove's northern headland has been occupied since the mid-20th century by the luxury property of Can Juncadella, today linked, according to several independent sources, to the family and entourage of former Kazakh president Nursultan Nazarbayev. Canyelles is home to Lloret de Mar's only marina, where boats associated with the Cala Canyelles Yacht Club moor.

Heritage & architecture

As Canyelles is a modern residential development built in the 20th century, the cove has no monuments predating that period. The beach, around 400 metres long and 40 metres wide, is split in two by a large outcropping rock known as the "Roca del Mig" or "Carquinyoli": to the west, on the marina side, lies the Ses Selves area; to the east, Llevandor (or Umar).
