Nervión developed over the course of the 20th century as part of Seville's major urban expansion, transforming an area of orchards, factories and workers' housing into a modern neighbourhood, conceived at the start of the century as a "Garden City" (Ciudad Jardín) by architect Aníbal González, who also designed the Plaza de España.
