"Cap Salou" literally means the cape, the rocky headland that closes off Salou Bay to the south-east. Tourist development in the area began in the 1960s and 1970s, as in the rest of the Costa Daurada, but Cap Salou's own development mostly intensified later: most of the neighbourhood's current housing was built between 2000 and 2010.
History & origins
The neighbourhood has around 2,930 residents. A municipal project for a "Camino de Ronda" (coastal path) and environmental restoration of the Cap Salou coastline is currently under development.
Heritage & architecture
Cap Salou is home to one of the town's landmark historical monuments, the Salou Lighthouse (Faro de Salou), inaugurated in 1858 and surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation, now built into a walkway along the Coastal Path. The Coastal Path links several coves (Cala Font, Cala Vinya, Cala Penya Tallada, Cala Crancs), with notable viewpoints including the Mirador de Cala Morisca.
